Available courses

This course introduces students to the techniques, materials, and processes involved in fabric decoration, focusing on both traditional and modern methods such as batik and embroidery. Learners will acquire practical skills in preparing fabrics, applying various decoration techniques, and finishing decorated textiles to professional standards.

The course emphasizes safety in the workplace, including the correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), proper handling of tools, and care for materials. Students will also learn methods of displaying and packaging decorated fabrics for presentation, storage, and marketing purposes.

Unit Description

This unit covers competences required to apply textile material principles. It involves applying textile fibre classification, yarn formation, fabric formation, textile finishing and textile care.

   

                               Textile science

INTRODUCTION:

The learner should demonstrate an understanding of textile fiber production processes, fiber identification, yarn formation, fabric formation, fabric processing, batik and tie and dye processes. The learner is also expected to acquire theoretical and practical skills necessary to work in the textile processing industry as textile quality controllers, textile supervisors and designers.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

By the end of the course unit the learner should be able to:

1)    Acquire general knowledge of textile fibers and fabrics

2)    Understand the production process of natural fibers and fabrics

3)    Understand the properties of natural fibers and the finishes applied to them

4)    Acquire general knowledge of yarn formation and the weaving process
